For the Burger:

  • 2x 200g plain beef burger patties
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 2 lettuce leaves
  • 4 bacon slices
  • 4 portobello mushrooms (large brown mushrooms)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Ghee or coconut oil
  • Salt and pepper

For the Fries:

  • 1 sweet potato
  • Salt and pepper
  • A little coconut oil

Homemade Ketchup:

  • 1 can of tomatoes
  • 1 small sweet onion
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • A pinch of ground allspice
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • A pinch of chili powder
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

1. Homemade Ketchup:

  • Crush the garlic and combine it with other ketchup ingredients.
  • Simmer over low heat for about an hour until it thickens.
  • Blend until smooth with a hand blender.

2. Sweet Potato Fries:

  • Peel and slice the sweet potato into desired shapes.
  • Place on parchment paper, coat with a little olive oil, and bake at 190°C for about 40 minutes until crispy.
  • Optionally, sprinkle with chili or pepper before baking, but salt after baking.

3. Burger Preparation:

  • Clean and slice the vegetables.
  • Bake bacon in a preheated oven at 200°C for 8-10 minutes until crispy.
  • Grill burger patties on medium heat for 8 minutes per side.
  • Add mushrooms to the grill after the first flip and grill for about 5 more minutes.

4. Assembly:

  • Stack ingredients on top of each other, using portobello mushrooms as both top and bottom "buns."
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds and serve with homemade ketchup and sweet potato chips.

5. Tip:

Soak sweet potato fries in cold water for an hour before baking to remove starch for a crispier result. Homemade ketchup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month.
